Whether he is supporting Veterans, defending constitutional rights, or leading his firm to be on the INC 5000 list 5 years in a row, John Berry is always mission focused. From his first job as a paperboy, John has always worked to align his actions with his goals to make sure that he doesn’t lose sight of his purpose.

While attending the College of William & Mary, (the second oldest institution of higher education in the United States), John, always passionate about service to his country, found his next challenge when he accepted the U.S. Army’s “Be All You Can Be” call to action. John set out to be more than your average infantryman. He took on the grueling challenge to complete Army Airborne School and Ranger School, spending days deprived of food and sleep and learning to test the limits of his body. This experience taught him to arrive early, stay late, and never disappoint your commanders. John is battle-tested. He served in Bosnia as part of Operation Joint Forge and as a Company Commander in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. John finished his military career serving over 20 years in the active U.S. Army and the National Guard. During this time, he held 3 commands and retired as a Battalion Commander. These experiences helped John learn the power of teams and what can be accomplished when we all work together to complete a mission.

From Soldier on The Battlefield to Warrior in The Courtroom

Additionally while serving in the Army National Guard, John completed his law degree, Cum Laude, at Creighton Law School, and joined the Lincoln law firm founded by his father (John Stevens Berry, Sr.) – a veteran who served in Vietnam – transferred his battles to the courtroom. Under John’s leadership and focus on building a strong team of problem solvers and leading subject matter experts, the firm has reached 8-figure annual revenue in sales, boasts one of the largest clientele of Veterans of any firm with thousands of clients in all 50 states and 8 foreign countries, and is one of the top five fastest growing law practices in the Midwest on the INC 5000 list. As John puts it, “the key is to find out what you do better than everyone else and then bring in the right team and push them to be their best. You solve problems with who, not how.”

A Relentless Veterans Advocate

Through John´s work as a CEO and attorney, he has seen firsthand how Veterans like him often are misunderstood. He has spent hours listening to the stories of men and women who served our country and now continue to be successful in business and life. This has led him to begin penning a new book on lessons we can all learn from PTSD Survivors.

John is a popular media contributor discussing the perspectives of Veterans and the latest news in criminal and civil law having been featured on such outlets as the Washington Post, Thrive Global, ESPN, and ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and CW stations in several markets. Recently, John’s firm Berry Law won the Department of Labor’s HIREVets Platinum Medallion Award for being one of the top Veteran employers in the nation. In fact, Berry Law has received multiple awards related to support and employment of Veterans including the 2019 Patriot Award from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, 2018 Military and Veteran Lawyer of the Year-USA award and Berry Law is an accredited member of the National Organization of Veteran Advocates.

An Active Member of The Legal Community

John has been an active member of the legal community serving as a past president of the Nebraska Criminal Defense Attorney Association, a fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers, and he has been recognized as one of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Trial Lawyers for 8 consecutive years.

John has been called upon to speak by many legal organizations, Veteran groups, and recently participated in a forum at The National Press Club.

When he’s not fighting for Veterans, John spends time with his two children, enjoys watching football, loves to ski, and is always pushing himself to prepare for the next battle.
